    phoenix hit it for you, the only thing i could add is about every 6 months wash 1 of the chambers of the wheat balls out so it does not cause a nitrate factory, do not wash all the balls at once or you will kill all your denitifieing bacteria. (sp)

    cool will do.just wanted to add that i got this second hand from smeone who had it on there marine tank.last night when i was setting up my tank i cleaned everything out in the filter with water from my tank there were load of dead worms and it was filthy looked like it hadnt been cleaned out in a year.is that ok as over time it will grow more bacteria?

    The way you are right now, you may only get a decent bacterial base and saturation by the adding of a substantial amount of rock and by adding live bacteria.

    Lookin good. I have a new build coming up with a canister filter too. Just use a lot of live rock so you have a larger surface area for bacteria.

    thanks im only getting 20lbs of live rock tommorow as thats all i can afford right now but over time i am going to build it up.im adding 40lbs of live sand will this be enough?

    You might want to consider using some base rock and dry sand(if you need more). you would save a lot of money and eventually have the same outcome.

    yea you can buy some base rock / dry rock its alot cheaper but still add some live

    what kind of lr is it

    Do you have anything to stop the microbubbles returning from your protein skimmer?
