i have green star polyps that won't come out anymore and they lost their green color. my mushrooms and all of my other coral are doing really great. my alkalinity is really low. what should i do. could it be my tap water. my water company recently changed the filtration system.

Tap water???? Holy crap batman, you shouldn't be using tap water. Only RO/DI should be going in the tank. If the polyps are are turning brown it is probably due to low water flow as they like to get blowed around a lot.
If you only knew how much minerals you were putting in that water it would make you sick.

You need to get RO/DI water in that tank ASAP with some water changes. I would start there first.
What are your other parameters at?? Mg, Ca, PO[SUB]4[/SUB], dHK....etc.

    You kidding me... :-/
You have had this tank up for 3 or 4 years and not tested for any of this stuff. No wonder things are going wrong. Ca=Calcium, Mg=Magnesium, PO[SUB]4[/SUB]=Phosphate, dHK is another form of ALK reading. Better start doing some research before you crash the tank.

What are your parameters and you don't want phosphates. And you do need calcium.

Better do some water changes with RO/DI water to get some parameters to stabilize.
