i got a used sump and i attached a picture of how the baffles are set up. i need to redo these and i am going to take them all out and resilicone.
question is how should i set these up. the way they were in there is kinda dumb.
i want drain and skimmer section. then fuge. then return section.
ive tried to draw this on paper but i cant figure it out for some reason. maybe u guys/girls can help me out.
    heres my crappy paint rendering;D

Skimmer placement is always a rough one – skimming pre-fuge can starve your refugium, skimming post deprives your display tank of many pods – can you put the skimmer elsewhere?

I am confused by the drawing, is that tiny little section to the left where you have your skimmer? What’s with the baffle design there – tough to follow….gotta excuse me, its post noon and us old folks get tired !!

So the water flows to refugium towards the base and flows out the top, is that how I read the drawing? Do you have a separate sump or will this be a one size fits all deal? Thus a fast moving refugium.

This is how I got it from the last guy.
The small section on the left is big enough for a drain pipe to fit in and that's about it. Then the fuge was next followed by the baffles then a spot for a skimmer and return pump.
I don't like the way its layed out and I've always had prob with microbubbles with a skimmer right next to a return pump. I will be removing all these peices of glass and starting all over

Is this a refugium slash sump or a refugium attached to your sump ? It will make a good deal of difference. As well as size, skimmer foot size and what you intend to keep in the refugium …. Just food for thought --

Here is a rough sketch of a draft - or draft of a rough sketch - see it for what you will!!!

Only add I would make is that the "extra" space at the top needs to be enough volume to handle all of the overflow from your tank when/if pump is off so that you do not have any flooding. Also - even if you do not have one now - you may very well end up with an ATO system. You want your sump volume to be able to hand a "full dump" of the ATO reservoir if the sensor fails or controller fails and dumps all that FW into you sump.

Other than that - this is a pretty common, tried and true method of putting together a sump with fuge.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Ask questions please!!!!!
