I accidently put sugar-size sand into my new tank without "washing" it, then the water get very cloudy. After one day the water get a little bit clearer, but once I turn my circulation pump on, the water will get cloudy very soon. What should I do now? Thanks very much

Just wait it out... it'll clear on it's own.

it should clear in about one more day.

Do you have any inhabitants in your tank right now?

sounds like you might be pointing your flow right on your sand... try redirecting it away.

Not anything yet. Just starting a new tank.

I guess it's one of the problem. I already changed the direction of the flow now. Hope it will work out. But the water should get clear even if I have flow, right?

yeah... if you have nothing in there (life), I would turn off the flow until it settles, personally.

It'll just settle faster that way... it'll settle eventually either way though.

I keep a seperate powerfilter (aquaclear) if you have one strap in a cartridge and it'll clear things up. I use them before waterchanges. Dust my rock and the filter sucks it up.. like vacuuming.

When I added sand to my 90 gallon, it took roughly 3 days to clear up. I would also turn off your powerheads. If you have a HOB (Hang-on-Back) filter you could turn it on and clean the filters once your tank clears.

After I added most my sand, I decided I wanted more and I added more a week later which made the water very cloudy again and I bought a chemical called Kent Pro Clear with helps your water clear faster. The chemical acts as a polymer which attracts floating dirt, suspended particle matter and other organic materials into clumps which are easy to filter out or will settle to the bottom of the aquarium.

But a lot of it in turn settled on my rocks and I had to fan them off by hand :p So it would have been better to just wait it out IMO
