I get nothing from Google or 3reef when I use the search bar. This page is what comes up.

Is this a browser setting? I run Safari 5.0.3.

That's because most of us are really looking for some one to talk to about our tanks......or how we think the site should be run :LolLolLol. All we are really looking for is to have some one to "bounce ideas off" and that can provide new perspective to something that research some times just misses, or we miss the point in research. I get the point, but it's a little funny to start a extra thread for this. Especially when your picking on a 14yr old kid, some times people just need reassurance about what they are doing. Is anyone really going to be that interested in my sump/fuge build other than to get some kicks, I don't really think so, but I'm going to do it soon anyway :cheesy:.

    Thanks Matt.
I have used the search several times and found what I was looking for but as Blackraven states it doesn't always work.Hope I didn't over step my bounds.

Should not be a browser setting. Very odd - I just checked on Safari 5.0.2 on my Macbook and it works fine? PM me with more details...

yeah... searching sux. finds a lot of useless and you can't tell the useless from the good without actually reading them... (but, to be fair,I haven't been on a forum where searching was awesome)

Tags isn't going to overcome that. Eventually, it'll be the same problem if everyone starts tagging all their throwaway threads.

IMO, the solution is to actually start rating threads (top right corner) and show those ratings in the search results. Then I can just look through top rated threads when I'm searching a tag...

A filter wouldn't hurt either. (i.e. filter out 1-3 star threads)

I search here quite often and it has stopped me from posting probably twice as many threads as I have started. The biggest problem I encounter is getting answers to my set-up specifically. Like, can I keep a clam under T-5's?(Recent search I've run) Most results are from 2-3 years ago and the people don't use the same fixture or bulbs as I am. So,I am forced to use deductive reasoning to figure out if I can do it, just start my own thread on the topic or try it and risk killing an expensive animal.

I do agree that searching is beneficial and would keep a lot of people from asking the same questions all the time.

Oh and one more thing, I have seen forums where searching was popular and old threads kept constantly getting dragged up from the dead. That is also annoying, almost more so than posting a new thread.

Couldn't agree more,i also do alot more research than i do asking questions now a days, but every once in a while i want anothers opinion.Even if i already believe i know the answer, sometimes i just like to be reassured by others with thier experiences to know i'm on the right track.I imagine redundant threads do become annoying to some and I could easily just google my question and read an article from one persons perspective, but i'd rather be here and get information and answers from a buncha good folks that i know i can trust and different perspectives at the same time.;)
