I've got a quick question for someone who's used my skimmer before.

I've got a Kent Marine Nautilus Turbo Eductor Protein Skimmer with my tank off criagslist. I can't find a manual or anything online about it. Most reviews are really old and a lot of posts say they're crap. I can't seem to get the nice sludge I've seen on other people's posts it either runs really wet or not at all.

Any advice? How deep should it sit in the water, how tall should I keep the output to get the best skimming?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

No advice? I redid our sump and now it's sitting in deeper water and makes a gurgling noise. I'm thinking I need to raise the skimmer but I'm not sure what height it should be.

Can you post a pic of the skimmer installed?
Does it have a gate/ball valve to control flow?

You need to have the outlet of the skimmer ABOVE the water otherwise you will get a gurgling noise.

Skimmers (even a used one) take some time to break in before they produce the nasty skimmate you are seeking.

Sorry I'm totally new to skimmers and have never set one up before. Here's a picture of my setup. It's sitting in 12" of water right now.

I have the same skimmer. just got it free from a friend who had it sitting in his garage unused. I know I need a skimmer and know 12" is a bit high. I would try 10 in at most. I am going to be playing with mine tonight and will let you know if I figure anything out!
