The oceans Motions are not that expensive especially when you figure what the cost of powers heads to replace a closed loop with 8 outlets would cost.

My closed loop is drilled in the back of the tank about 6" up from the bottom. I will never go back to Power heads vs Closed loop ever again. I love mine.

ill be putting pics up once i start it lol...i am still in the very begging.id like to get everything frist from the top of the tank down.then fill it and start the cycle then start building the led light and hood.

as for power heads im still not sure. if i decide to go closed loop i dont think i will need to add power heads. i may go with an mp 40 or 2 depending how this thread goes.

drilling all these holes in my tank worries me about structural integrity. drilling the holes im not so worried about but drilling 10+ worries me about a connect the holes crack lol.also the total cost is building ...400 for pump 450 for the ocean motion pluss all the plumbing jeesh lol

The costs and worries of CL makes me think having the pumps in the tank are definitely worth it.

I wonder how much GPH movement to dollar spent you can get with a CL compared to vortechs.

well assuming you own the drill bit to drill your own tank i tihnk they are similar

    2 mp40 es will run you about 900 and provide 6400gph=7gph per$1

1 reeflo hammerhead($400)+8 way oceans motions($459)=$859+plumbing at 5800gph=6.75gph per $1 (not counting plumbing)

counting plumbing and drilling would tip the scales i believe though.closed loops require alot of ball valves, unions, and bulk heads wich add up.

my big concern is the structural integrity of the tank with 12 holes in it.

But to me its not the cost its the aesthetics, I like the looks of a tank without Power heads in it so much better than one with them in it. All I have is a few small nozzles sticking out into my tank.

I have a 75 gallon tank, In the back panel it has a total of 10 holes:

    1 - 3.25" hole, 1 - 2.5" hole, 8 - 1.75 holes.

Which is allot and I have had no problem for several years now.

I agree that it's all about aesthetics, and I'm sure it's going to be amazing.
