11.99 is a little high for the rock I am seeing in the picture but if it was properly cured then you are at the mercy of the store. Hey before you buy too many components at your local fish store (Skimmer, Light Powerheads ,)Etc you should definitely look online first I have saved hundreds of dollars on stuff because I bought it online. Try Dr Fosters and Smith . and take it slow

Hope so...Sounds like a bit too much for LR...unless it is really, really special

Sounds like you might need to do allot of online shopping if that is the only LFS you have access to.

Are these the same guys building your sump system? --- Curious about what they are charging for it?

You will find this hobby expensive enough without the help of a LFS over charging you.

    Good Luck.

Ok. Whew! Yesterday was crazy! I went to my LFS and spent $360 on the sump. I got back home and it didn't fit by 2 inches. So, I decided to go bigger! I went from a 20 gallon to a 36 gallon just for the hell of it. ;D It came with the stand and tank for $260. I'm going to return the 20 gallon today. Here are some pictures from my LFS. They have a 1200 saltwater tank. It is georgous in person! Take a look!

ok, sorry for quad posting if that is a problem! just trying to keep you guys updated with whats going on. I just bought 40 pounds of this : Kaelini Tonga Ultra Show Live Rock - Fully Cured: Premium Aquatics

Total price including shipping was the exact same price ($260) that i paid my LFS for 19 pounds of ugly rock. Soooo......i made it out with a bargain. ;D:);):cheesy:

    Welcome to 3Reef!
I've been running my 20 gallon tank for almost 2 years now. I bought my live rock from Premium Aquatics as well and was very pleased with their service and product. They have a great online help feature if you have any questions about your order. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a protein skimmer. When I first set up my tank the LR and skimmer were by big initial costs (both from Premium Aquatics). I have a Remora skimmer and it's awesome. I added a sump last spring to add some volume and free up the inside of the tank.
As many have cautioned already, take it slow. I kept my skimmer running during the cycling process and kept a close eye on my water quality levels before I added so much as a snail to the tank. You've found an amazing resource and community here at 3Reef. Keep on doing your "homework" and keep on asking questions...you'll get plenty of great info here!

I bought an acrylic 12 gallon eclipse. I had to jury rig new compact lights into in that would support the coral. Love the filter system but the lights suck. I do not use a skimmer, but I did use live sand. Everything is doing well. A quarantine tank is a good idea probably 40 or so with a light maybe 60. My own downfall to the nano reef is changing the water weekly is a requirement.

ARRRG! Do not buy one! if you really want one I have one I will give you, then when you decide it is a POS like I did after 10 days you can send it back to me and I can use the pump in my premixed salt bucket again like I am now.

How big a tank do you have? I have a 10, 16 and 20. Don't use a skimmer on any of them, just do 10% water changes every weekend. With premixed water it takes me 1 hour a week.
