I have a Kole Tang (~4") that I got about 10 days ago. It's very active and only spent the first night under cover. Since then, it is swimming freely and doesn't spook when I go to look at the tank.

I feed Omega One Marine Flake and Spectrum Pellets 4-5 days per week and frozen brine shrimp 1-2 days per week on an off day for the flake/pellets. When I first put the tang in, it immediately went for the flake during feedings. I was happy with that and haven't paid much attention since then. However, I've noticed that it is grazing non-stop on my glass/rock and is starting to get thin.

I picked up some Omega One Kelp flake to supplement. During today's feeding, I watched a little closer. It immediately went for the flake as normal, but then it spit it out after "nibbling" at it for a couple of seconds. It would spit it out/take it in/spit it out, and then move on to the next flake and repeat the process. Assumed it didn't like the taste of flake, so I tried some frozen mysis that I have. It showed the same behavior. Immediately went after numerous pieces, but I don't think it actually swallowed anything.

Any ideas? I'm worried it'll be susceptible to disease and illness if it gets much thinner. I don't have any noticeable algaes on the rocks (I'm sure there's some micro algaes), and it won't sustain a tang that big for long.

    Any help is appreciated!

you should go get some seaweed sheets/nori and a veggie clip to feed it, try to soak in in selcon for a bit first. If you don't have much algae in your tank, you'll need to supplement the tangs diet, 3-4 times a week with some seaweed

I did try that. I left it in there overnight and he didn't touch it. I pulled it out becuase I didn't want ti to just decay in there, but maybe I didn't leave it in long enough for him to "find" it.

    Selcon?

Selcon comes in a pink bottle and is a vitamin/omego soak. It also acts as an apatite enhancer. Its a must for tangs in my book.

Thanks! Haven't seen anything like that in the LFS. I'll look on-line and get some coming!

Thanks. Hope he comes around. He took to the tank quickly and would hate to lose him.

Thanks for the heads up. I know the LFS doesn't have it, but I'll look for something similar or make a DFS run. :)

I would order Formula 2 frozen and flakes as well as NLS Pellets size small. Best food out there for tangs IMO. And Selcon lol.
