    WELL where to start? I have a 180Gal. tankj i want to set up as a reef tank. I've never had a saltwater tank i'm kind of intimidated by it. plz helphow should i do the FILTRATION and LIGHTING????

    Welcome to 3reef,

    For lighting with for a reef you can go T5 ( might be the cheapest for 180 gallons), Metal Halide, and LED ( which will probably be the most expensive depending on the quality).

    For filtration, a sump, live rock and a skimmer seem to be the most popular.

    A fuge is good for filtration to. A PC light will do good if you only want softies and\or LPS.
    I would go with T5 or LED. They use less electricity and LED's last a very long time, they produce less heat compared with MH IMO.

    Welcome to 3reef. :) I would deff say atleast a 6 bulb T5HO light. What are your tank dimensions?
