I agree. Let them come back on at normal times tomorrow.

The problem with drip on a shipped fish is that as you put in new water you are increasing the Oxygen (good) but this has a direct relationship to ammonia levels (i.e. they spike high and fast).

So would you rather your fish acclimate to your SG but deal with Ammonia, or to not deal with ammonia and let it deal with the SG swing... that may or may not be there even...

IMO, ammonia is far worse for the fish than an SG swing. The ammonia makes the O counterproductive.

You can see this by simply testing the water... it's verifiable.

Well I haven't turned the lights on yet but I have been sitting here watching the new Tang swim around and he has been very active!

He is swimming the length of the tank, investigating every cave and crevice, and is also picking at the rocks at algae! I hope he does well in my tank and continues to acclimate well.

Great emergency team here at 3reef. I first thought dumping it in immediately was too extreme, but makes sense how swimming in a bag of your own waste and with low o2 is worse.

Ammonia does not increase... the potency of it does with high PH's, nothing to do with O2 levels.

FWIW it is perfectly normal for a tang to do that after shipping. It's not due to low 02 most likely but rather how they deal with stress. I've imported thousands upon thousands of tangs and nearly all came in like that.

Thanks for the info. I hope the guy does well in my tank and is a good community/reef addition.
