Anyone know what this is? It started out the size of a flat pea and now is almost a quarter??

    Thanks!

Can you get a different angle? Kind of hard to tell in that pic.

It may be some type of tunicate. Or sponge? A different angle would help. does it deflate if you poke it?

Feels like a soft coral and does not deflate when you touch. Not sure if it is showing up but it is a light purple with bright orange spots. Never seen anything like it. It was definitely a hitchhiker as this particular piece of coral was bleached before going into tank several months ago. Here are some more pictures:

It has the shape of an unhappy toadstool leather...but the orange on it is throwing me off. It doesn't look like anything bad though. Most likely some sort of sponge.

It actually is very cool looking :), just trying to figure out what it is. It must like the location because it is growing fairly quickly and has a small new part growing out from underneath it (not sure if that is showing up in pics).

i thought the same thing till i saw more at other places in the tank. expect them to grow quickly. i had a colony grow the size of a golf ball then it was time to get rid of it. save yourself the headache and get rid of it now. trust me. unless u like it then its all up to you

Yep looks like you were right, I googled the red bubble algae and there are several pics that look just like it. Is this form that bad for a FOWLR? It looks really nice for algae :). Thanks for the id K+

If it is bubble algae then you definitely want to get rid of it. 1 or 2 looks cool, but it gets out of hand very quickly. Be careful removing it. Try not to burst it. Having a hose next to it when you get rid of it would be a good idea to suck it up quickly if it does pop.
