I'm Looking To Add A 10 To 15 Gal Sump To My 29 Gal Biocube. Here Is The Problem, The Tank Is Established And Has Been For About 8 Months. So I'm Trying To See If Anyone Has A Diy Sump That Would Work Without Me Having To Empty Out My Tank, Because Today Is Just Not An Option. I Was Thinking About Running A pump To Draw Water Out Of The Middle Chamber From The Existing Filter And Putting A Return Pump Into The Existing 3rd Chamber That Flows The Water Back Into The Tank. And I A Little FaR Fetched Here, Or Could That Work? Any Input Would Be Great.

As much as I would love to say that would work, it won't. You will never be able to match up both pumps. Even if you did, it would be no time at all before one pumped just a little more than the other, and it would be a disaster. The only way to do it is to have the water you pump from the sump overflow via gravity back down to the sump.

The only way to do this without drilling (that I know of) is to use a HOB overflow. Eshopps makes a nano model that I actually just picked up for my JBJ nano cube, but I have no idea if it will fit in a Biocube. You will need to basically fill the tank up high enough so the water level is higher than all chambers, and the overflow box will siphon all water that is pumped from the sump.

    Hope this helps!
