All my troubles started when my stealth heater went out I believe. But now I'm having troubles keeping my kh and ph up to standards. What could be causing them both to drop I'm using rodi water just changed all filters and mixing to 1.025 with seachems reef salt. I have heard horror stories about sea chem salt but I have never had any problem till now and everything seems to be going wrong at once.
All of my parameters are good except my ph keeps dropping to 7.8-7.9 and my kh keeps dropping to 6 so I've been trying to bring it all up with aquavitro line of products with no luck it drops off like a rock

do you think I should switch salts if so what's the best salt to use?

I have been doing 40 gallon water changes every week to week and a half my tank is 300 gallons total please help!!!

do you test the levels in the new batches of salt water you make Craigar?
that way you could eliminate deficient levels on the product

what are you keeping at present

my tank at present would drop 0.25 DKH and approx 5ppm Calcium, everyday if I did not dose daily to compensate

at peak growth time on last set up, I was replacing for 0.5 DKH drop and 10ppm Calcium each day

with a fully developed SPS and clam set up, its not impossible for DKH to drop down 2 in a 24 hour period (so from 8 to 6 in 1 day if your not dosing to compensate) and Calcium around 40ppm - due to the demand from the corals and clams

It's a mixed reef with sps and lps no clams look at my pics and let me know what you think. I do test my water before I change it and my mag has been fluctuating a bit but ph and dkh is normal I never had any trouble for the past two years and now all of a sudden it all came crashing down first my heater then all of this within the last two months

    Just looked at your pictures
you have rapidly developing coraline algae plus some decent sized SPS colonies

    are you dosing at all
IME , you probably need to , as water changes alone (40 gallons in 300 is 13%)
may not be adequate anymore to maintain the demand you are now getting

and those bottled products of liquid supplements will be a drop in the ocean when your trying to maintain levels in 300 gallons of water

might want to consider BRS bulk purchase of materials needed to maintain calcium and Alkalinity IMHO
Your images show me , a tank that is developing nicely and as such will have a daily demand on these ions

Your pH will drop if your KH drops as a general rule. As stated previously, if you are only replacing your alkalinity with water-changes and you have a lot of SPS and LPS corals, this is to be expected.

Most tanks do not remove Calcium and Alkalinity at the same rate. For instance, I would go through 2 bottles of alkalinity supplement for every 1 bottle of Calcium (and Magnesium) supplement.
