I don't think you'll catch it without breaking down the tank or using a trap. Those mean buggers are fast.

For all the new people thinking about starting a tank. Never, ever cycle your tank with damsels! EVER!

I have new theories. 1: The damsel is trying to "bond" with the goniopora and is eating "stuff" off of it. It just hangs out next to it all the time. 2. the goniopora is dying and the damsel is eating it. but none of the other fish are eating it so I don't know.

Your humbug can/do/will host anemones. It may be hosting behavior you are mistaking for eating. Clownfish are actually damsels. So, I say yes, your damsel is trying to "bond" with a host. A pretty common gripe for flowerpot/clown keepers. The three/four striped damsels are likely damsels to host anemones.

that is what I thought. but i just noticed some of the base tentacles of the goni are gone, so I am going to go with it is dying. which sucks because I have only had it for 2 weeks, and the LFS doesn't have any guarantee on them because of their short lifespan in captivity, on top of them not knowing how old they are when they receive them.

I think my first/last goni lasted 2 weeks also. There are a couple here on 3reef that have had good success.

    x2 LMAO

I hate all my damsels. came with the tank and I was like "oooohh fishies"

I do like my domino damsel though. his name is SissyNoFriends. will it upset my clown and domino if the two yellow tails and the three stripe disappeared one day?
