I have a 29 gallon reef tank with soft corals a Chromie and a the general cleaning crew(sanils and crabs and a peppermint shrimp) Our tank is currently looking very bad as it is being overrun with Aiptasia, Bristle worms(tons) and little white starfish. Does this mean I have a over feeding problem( I have drastically cut down what I feed them) Just a little fish flake for the Chromie. I have recently just set up a refugium and am working on getting that stable and which I think will help overall but it is not ready yet. Any Ideas how to stop the infestation of Aiptasia and Bristle worms

Your going to have to nuke the Aipstasia by with taking the rock out or killing it with Lemon or joes juice to each by needle.

Bristle worms generally aren't a problem but you can take them out manually or buy a trap

Any pics of your tank ?

I bought a zoanthid rock that ended up having aptasia on it. I stocked some pepermint shrimp and they took care of it within a couple days. If I do have some pop up anywhere in my tank I just throw some glue on them. Seems to do the trick. GL

I have aptasia X and it's okay, I like glue the best.

i have tryed the aptasia X and the aptasia just comes back in a few days. this is not so with the joes juice. once you hit it . its gone for good.

just becareful if you have anemones in your tank. i hit a aptasia with joe's juice and didnt realize one of my mini's was right under it in the rocks. it got some joe's juice on it and it burnt the mini a bit, its seems to have made it threw but taught me to look at whats around when i inject the aptasia..

Definitely an overfeeding issue. The bristleworm population will die back eventually with less feeding. Aiptasia you're just going to have to pick one of the many remedies and try it.

You can also mix up a kalk paste and inject a tiny bit into each aiptasia. You should only kill about five a day with this method.

Also, how much flow do you have in your tank? More flow will reduce detritus buildup by keeping more particulate matter suspended in the water column which will in turn allow for more to get to the sump.
