    hello all, my name is Richard im new to the saltwater aquarium world. Im wanting to start a reef tank i have a 55gallon aquarium i have one clown fish,coralbeauti, a dansal and a chocolate starfish, i have a undergravel filter with 2 maxijet 900 powerheads, i have about 2in of coral chips at the the bottom. i know that i have to update my lighting but was wondering what else i would need to get my reeftank up and going thanks,......

    Welcome to 3reef.

    Eliminate the under gravel filter and coral chips they create loads on nitrate issues, live rock will take care of their functions and you should use sand. The chocolate starfish will need to go also it is not reef compatible. You will want to buy a skimmer rated for a 100 gallon tank.

    Ditch the choc chip star if you want a reef...they eat coral like potato chips :)

    ok thats not a problem i will get ride of the starfish does any one know were some one could buy a used skimmer i want a good one but dont have the money yet for that
