I have a 92gal corner bow front tank. I am fairly new to this hobby. I took over my room mated 250 gal reef tank that had been up and running for three years. It was pretty much cruise control with his. However, I bought a place and that tank would not fit, so I went with the 92 and put almost everything from the 250 into that one - minus all the live rock. The day we moved it was horrible - we made the mistake of not getting enough water to fill the other and were left short. Therefore, we stuck all the liverock from the 250 in to bring the water level up and was still short. It was late at night and were left with no other choice but to go to the local Walgreens and get distilled water (big no no on my part) and filled the tank the rest of the way. Unfortunately this left the salinity way below standard. Therefore, the few corals in there suffered and one of them (button polyps I think) has lost about 2/3 of it. A month later everything is up to good condition and the LFS say's the water is right on. The tank still looks a little dull, but I guess that will change with time. Suprisingly none of the fish were harmed. Hopefully, soon the tank will be back with all the vibrant colors again.....

Wow... sounds like you had one heck of a time. Hopefully I'm not doing anything wrong I usually buy the gallon jugs of water from Walgreens for top offs and water changes. I try to get the ones that say purified and make sure on the label it says purified by reverse osomosis. Just seems like everything I have read calls for reverse osmosis water.

    good luck with the tank!!

Glad you got it straightened out! Hypo salinity will not kill a fish unless it's really low and for a long time. Are you testing your water yet yourself?(if not you really should, No test strips either, get good drop testers) What are your readings? Post some pics when you get a chance!!!

    Oh yeah...Welcome to 3reef!!!
