Just joined the site, wanted to say hello. I currently own a 55 SW tank, that will be a year old in March. Fought cyno-bacteria for the last 8 months, at one time about 4 months ago, I just about dismatled the tank completely. I tried everything, lights out, huge water changes, bigger skimmer, red slime remover, etc. I had a very successful 29 gallon Reef tank for two years, and never had a problem with it, it flourished from day one, NEVER had a cyno out break, figured my good fortune would follow me to the 55, but it didn't. Unfortunantly I lost the 29 to Hurricane Ike. Lost power for two weeks, and by the time I did land a generator three days later, it was too late. For the past four months, I just let my 55 go, didn't do anything, but top offs for a solid four months. Lost half a dozen fish during the time, but just didn't care, because I was done with all the set backs. I've got one snail left out of my original CUC, and one yellow tailed Damsel, that somehow pulled through. Anyway, I cleaned the tank up this past week, did a 40% WC, added another anti-biotic thats supposed to work well, going to do another 40% WC tomorrow, and go at it again. Got my lights back on a normal schedule now, after just running them 2 hrs a day for the last four months, so far, so good We'll see what happens. Anyway, look forward to chatting with everyone!

Welcome to 3Reef! Have you been using tap water for H2O changes or filtered RO-DI?

Bama, I've been using RO/DI water from my LFS. I usually test the water before I put it in tank, and all the params have been good, with the exception of the SG, it's always high, and I always have to dilute it before I put in tank. Their set up is pretty emaculant, I've been in the back while they fill my jugs, but as I've said, their water is always high in salinity, and I usually check it 3 times before I dilute it. RO/DI unit for myself is on the horizon, I'm just not sure just yet.
