Some of you may remember me. Some of you may not. But anyway....i thought id come back and say hello to you guys again, as i have been absent for a while.
If you've been wondering where ive been.......well ill keep the story short. My GF and i split up. I moved out. Didnt have internet access or access to my precious tanks *cries*, but was promised by the GF that she would look after them.
Fast forward a month or two (or maybe 3 ) and we are back together and im back home. But now the tanks she promised to look after are in a poopy state. :-[
The little tank was over run with algea of all sorts. The water level was so low that half the rocks were out of the water, and so was one coral (which we lost). The skimmer cup im guessing hadnt been emptied for god knows how long. The glass was opaque where there was so much algea covering it. Anyway....at least the 3 of the other corals were still alive, also the shrimp was still kicking.
Next the big tank....The sump had pretty much run dry. All the big fish (yellow tang, blue tang, angel and bannerfish) were all dead. :-[ Also there was an algea outbreak in here as well. Also, some how a few of my 'rocks' had fallen over :S
Im not blaming my gf, as she did actually try to do things and get things right. This was her quote. ''I did try to look after them and i looked at the internet and stuff to try to learn. But it was like science fiction to me. I really had no clue i had to do some much. I thought i just had to feed the fish once or twice a day''. I tend to agree that for someone who hasnt even had a gold fish, the idea of keeping a marine aquarium is a very daunting task. Heck....im still struggling now and ive kept fish for years!

    How i resolved these catastrophes:
I decided to disassemble the small tank altogether. Just focus purely on one tank from now on. I took all the surviving corals out and placed in the big tank. I removed the live rock. SCrubbed and cleaned it to remove algea, then placed it in the sump of my big tank. I caught the shrimp and also placed him in my big tank. Everything seems to have recovered and is enjoying its new accomodation.
In the big tank. The first thing i did was top up the sump with nice new water. Cleaned the bits of algea off the rocks when i put them back to their original positions. I also added a few power heads because i felt there wasnt enough flow.

Anyway......thats my story. I know its a long post. But i just wanted to let you share my nightmare :( I also wanted to say hello again and let you guys know I MISSED YOU!! ::) Im hoping that from here on, i can get back on the road to success. Wish me luck

    Luc
