I am thinking of replacing my heater. It came with the tank and I think it's a visi therm but not the deluxe. What wattage is the best for 55g? And which heaters are recommended.

    Hydor Theo (shatter proof)
    visitherm deluxe
    ebo jager

I have a 250w Jager in my 120gal.....so far works like a charm.

As for the other two I haven't used them so I can't give an opinion.

    Good luck :)

I am a fan of the Titanium style heaters. I'm not positive but I was told one that about 4 watts per gallon should be sufficient ;)
IMO The controller is the most important part, in that if it fails you can toast your tank.

I've actually heard alot of bad things about the titanium over at nano-reef.

Most of ^^ applied to Finnex however, and not as much on other brands.

Titanium heaters are great but the ones that WON Brothers make are not as good as they used to be. I had a few and they always failed. Either stopped working or worked too well (overheated).

I wish there were reviews it would make the decision making easier. The new hydor theo are shatter proof, turn off automatically when the water level drops too much, and they aparently are accurate within a degree. But unless you know someone who has one, what the company says it does means absolutely nothing. It's all marketing ploys!
