Also think about getting a titanium heater. Then you don't have to worry about it cracking.

This happened to me in my cuttle tank. I threw the sand out. I soaked the rock in FW for a while and scrubbed it pretty well.

There was also a lot of iron-ish material in the tank. So I made an electromagnet out of an iron bar line w/ thin PVC and pumped water through it. It worked. I threw the water out anyways but I wanted to see if it would work and I had a perfect chance.

    Thank you!

    Hey y'all...

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great ideas to help me salvage my tank after the heater leaked.

Unfortunately, whatever was in that Marineland Stealth heater (Marineland says "just sand," by the way. Yeah, right!) killed and contaminated everything to a point that I did have to start over. It even killed the coralline on my rocks!

Anyway, I'm rolling again and re-establishing an ecosystem in the tank. Square one!

    Thanks again!

Get a titanium heater, they cost more, but the piece of mind is priceless

Already did! Just wish I would have known, ahead of time, that I had a time bomb in my tank!

    Ignorance WAS bliss!

I went top dollar on everything else and actually thought the Marineland Stealth was a good product. I'm still in disbelief that they'd make something SOOO toxic for aquariums though!
