I don't know the story as to why, but Russ Boyd left Boyd Enterprises and started a company called Aqua Horizon. His new product is called Filtereez (plus Slimeez). If I had to take a guess, I would say these are the exact same items as Chemi-Pure and Chemi-Clean Red Slime Remover. However, I've not seen these new products yet so I was just wondering if any of you have seen them.

EDIT: I looked at their website. Since it has a phosphate remover in it as well, that would make it similar to Chemipure Elite and not the regular Chemipure. http://aquahorizon.com/filtereez.htm

The Filtereez reads a lot like Chemipure Elite.

if you read the directions for the slimeez looks like some pretty serious stuff....one drop per gallon. works by oxidation??? i wonder how "reef safe" the stuff is.

i have used chemi pure elite before and loved it. it helped me get below the 5ppm nitrate level.

Basically, if one were to combine ion-exchange resins like Purigen and an Iron Oxide-based phosphate remover, you have Chemi-Pure Elite. I talked with Russ yesterday. This formula is a tiny bit different from Chemi-Pure Elite. For all practical purposes, it's roughly the same thing.

    See my comments above.

Actually, any product that actually works against cyanobacteria, is going to work through Oxidation. As a result, there is a risk if you overdose the product. However, used as directed, it's reef safe. YOU STILL HAVE TO FIX THE UNDERLYING CAUSE OF THE CYANO THOUGH. IF YOU DON'T, IT WILL EVENTUALLY JUST COME BACK. Back in the olden days we used Potassium Permanganate. However, it stains your hands, stains your clothes, and was very easy to overdose. The new generation of oxidizers are much safer IMO. I use a home-grown oxidizer on occasion. However, to use mine you need to have a pH probe and an ORP probe. One has to understand what is going on as those numbers change too and that's the reason I won't share what I use. I don't want someone to nuke their tank and blame me.
