Has anyone ever tried to move coral from a tank to the ocean?

i've actually wondered about this before myself, but not yet gone to the effort of looking into as much lol.
never considered the problem of introducing a foreign species and it becoming a pest.
out of interest, if it was an area where say zoa's were common and you introduced some zoa's that were tank raised, would they thrive in natural conditions better than in a tank? or would they noticably loose coloration or something else?
also, what if there was a somewhat isolated area of ocean suitable for a reef that didnt really contain anything, would it be a good idea/possible to start something from scratch in that case?

all i really knew about the ocean before i got into this aquarium stuff was that it makes my eyes sting so you'll have to excuse any obvious ignorance. weird considering how close i've lived to it for so long.
