So recently I added the tiniest baby atlantic blue tang(maybe an inch long, smallest ive ever seen one) and I added him to my tank and no one really gave him a problem until about 30 minutes in my 3 stripe damsel started nipping and vibrating in front of him and then started chasing him and i tried pulling one of the fish out but was unable to catch them....so now this is where the craziest thing comes in, I have a female maldives lyretail anthias in my tank as well and everytime the damel would aproach the tang the anthias would get in between them and protect the tang. If it were to fish of the same species or a mated pair or something I wouldn't find this that weird but 2 different fish who are complete different species and one is protecting the other, has anyone ever seen or heard of this???

My Gold striped maroon clown will protect my yellow tang from 2 green chromos that pick on it.....so there goes the threory of same species as a clown is the same family as the chromos

well not in all cases but ive seen damsels and chromis who get along very well but in this case its crazy because its not even a similar species genetically at all although similar in color, the anthias is a very nice orangeish color and atlantic blue tang is juvenile so still yellow but that is cool that you have a similar experience with your maroon clown

everything seems to slightly have calmed down because of this but the damsel is still vibrating his body violently near the tang but no physical bullying right now

    LOL

I once had a coral beauty that kept a domino damsel in his place- no matter who he tried to bully, the CB would chase him under a rock and make him stay there for a while. The CB never bothered anything else otherwise.

lol thats funny, this tang actually was to replace my coral beauty :'( he passed last week with no signs of any distress until just before, no changes in parameters no new additions etc he was large when i got him so maybe it was just his time and since there was no signs of infection parasites etc the only other thing i could think of is maybe some kind of internal infection

funniest thing is my domino damsel is the most docile fish ive ever seen, when im working around the tank he'll come sit on my hand etc(doesnt show any signs of being territorial ex: vibrating nipping etc) he can be hand fed and if i ever wanted to remove him i could probably pick him up by hand with no issue  and hes never shown agression to any other fish but when my 3 stripe takes a go at him he'll kind of just laugh it off and put him back in place and then go back to surfing my powerheads lol
