Hang On back Protein Skimmer Looking to Upgrade Suggestions..??

    Really have been thinking of a sump ive been talking with my lfs about helping me build one from a 55gal i have a 30long that wont do it? another is i live in a second flr apt if somthing happen to go wrong with sump i would be *&%#!%....In a nice way of saying it...

    Drilling is not required but it is a more reliable way to get the water than a hang on overflow.

    You know, you really need to live by the limitations you have. A sump is the best way to go, even if all it is is a skimmer holder. But ya, you have to ask yourself how much you value peace of mind. Those HOBs look very good. I'm sure it will be a upgrade over what you have.

    And what you said about buying the best....well you are right. Good husbandry and mediocre equipment will beat a crappy owner with the best equipment. But good husbandry and good equipment.... winning combo.

    Just to put it in perspective, my Sicce is doing 32 scfh on my 90. Scicces can get up to 38 scfh. I would have no problem using my skimmer up to 180g. Do HOBs have compromises to sump models, well ya, but a Sicce powered HOB pulling 32 scfh..... dude... that's a pretty good HOB. You can get much crappier sump models.;D
