My Deltec MCE600 is brilliant, but pricey. I'd highly recommend though!

check out the Bubble Magus BMQQ HOB. quality skimmer, basically a deltec knockoff but about 1/8th the price... WAY cheaper, excellent build quality

How is the BMQQ anything like the MCE600? or are you saying it is a MCE300 knock off? The MCE600 seems so well lauded from all reports that it would seem to me to be the ultimate HOB.

There is an in-tank BMQQ, and a true HOB (external) version it seems. The BMQQ only draws 180lph of air, which I would not consider enough for a 125g reef.

For a 125g, the only HOB I would consider is the MCE600. With some patience, you can sometimes find them used for as little as $300.

ATB makes a cone skimmer called the Multi-Use, but it is even more expensive than the MCE600.

You could also go with a Tunze 9010 in-tank skimmer, which has a discreet footprint.

Also, two smaller skimmers like two Warner Marine H2 Version 2 skimmers (newest generation w. bubble plate) may be nice...but as expensive as the MCE600 or ATB.

Lastly, could you drill your tank and get a sump? You will have many more (& less compromised) options that way...

There have been some good HOBs out lately. I will second WM H2.... but lik ewas said above, they do have their compromises. Any way to go to a sump and get a sump skimmer, or are you not thrilled about a siphon overflow?

Holy Crap.... I was just looking at SWCs HOBs.... wow...32 scfh is nothing to laugh at.

I for one am not thrilled with the siphon overflow...wouldn't use one myself...but some people do.

Wow indeed, that SWC HOB looks pretty nice. Looks much like the drool-worthy CNC-Marine HOB that is no longer available...I would research that one as well. Has a Sicce pump that is proven but from what I have read the stock Sicce volute has reduced performance when the impeller spins backwards on some starts.

I don't find it to be a big deal. The Sicce water pump does not have that issue, but when you put a needle wheel in it changes that. The stock volute is a directional volute, so if it starts backwards, the flow is a bit diminished. I have one on my K2, and it does not bother me. It starts right 80-90% of the time. You can tell when it does not, but it will still perform. I personally would not let that be a deciding factor. I have not regretted it with my choice. SWC is a solid company. a sicce can handle up to a 150-180 for sure. WM put out a red wheel that is getting 38 scfh.
