Acrylic is expensive now day but $80 seems a little high to me. You could build one cheaper then that.

If it doesn't leak, fits your tank right, looks decent, and you want it buy it. Nothing sucks more on a diy then dealing with plumbing and leaks from silicone. Also, it can be frustrating getting the right fit and look you want. If this fits the bill why deal with the mental anquish.

Unless of course you like this kind of challenge.;D

Personally I'd DIY it. Getting someone to cut some glass or acrylic to specs you provide, then siliconing the thing together isn't necessarily difficult.

However, it sounds like you want to avoid DIY. What is your tank size that you're going to put that on? Because that size of fuge will hold a little over 5.6 gallons, but in reality you will probably be using less than 5 because of sand, displacement from a pump and rock/plants, but 5 gallons is a rough guestimate. I would say go for it, ESPECIALLY if you are switching from a fuge as small as an AquaClear 110 filter.

You've got the green light to go ahead with it from me. :D

I'd buy it, thats a good deal and by the time you buy the acrylic and cement you're not really saving much cash anyway

You aren't supposed to silicone acrylic though. Heating, bending then bonding acrylic as one sheet isn't very easy, it gets messy too, if you aren't experienced with it. If you bond 4 pieces together, it's not too hard. $80 isn't too bad though. My CPR HOB fuge was like $120.
