My father in law had to do a pick up and move and could not take any of his prized possessions (saltwater tanks), so he gave me a 55g with live rock and crushed coral w/ a maroon clown, blue tang and i think its a humu humu trigger. I have had the water cycle for a day and added the lr and crushed coral in today but I am worried about the fish getting to stressed in the qt because of the move and the confined space, any suggestions????

Change the CC to sand. If your dad gave you the tank, where the fish and stuff already in there? If you used everything from the tank then you should be fine. how big is the QT?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

You might need to get a product that removes the ammonia like Ammonia Lock or some equiv. Check parameters daily while in QT for ammonia, and be prepared to do daily wc. Feed very sparingly while they are in the QT. If the tank is void of any LR you might want to place a piece of two in there.

Good luck let us know how it turns out.

the original tank was a 125 but it was to big for my apartment but i was able to transfer a good 75% of the crushed coral and the all the live rock to the 55. So far the ph in the 55 is reading 7.8 the alkaline is way high at 2.9 and I have yet to check the ammonia level it completely slipped my mind with trying to get the main tank set up. I have done one water change in the qt but it is only a 10g which is way to small for all 3 fish, that's what my big rush is lol. Thanks for the advice guys i will def. keep you posted on the progress and here is a pic of the tank so far.

I feel ya pain... just went through a panic move/set up but with much smaller tank and fish. Keep checkin ammonia for sure in that qt tank and prepare for water changes. I'd get a tote or new garbage can set up today with salt water premixed and ready and definately put a peice or two of that live rock in the qt... it will reduce space but help with water parameters a lot

Thanks everyone for the help but what should I be looking for exactly for the right time to add the little guys to the tank a full cycle since I did a 100% water change or just the parameters to be where they should??

do youknow what the SG was on thier old tank? what is it in the qt tank? get that matched along with the temp and at this point I think (if it were me) I'd call it time to get them in the 55. Also how long has it been since they got switched into the qt tank?
