It's funny how some owners treat their good customers. one time I called on the phone and asked how much for a bucket of salt. Didn't tell them who i was, as I wasn't expecting any special treatment anyways... $55.00 they said. When I got to the store, grabbed the salt and went to the register it came out to $40.00 including tax. not bad.

and yes, it was the same person, the owner.

I would tell the LFS owner to go pound sand contact my bank and have them reverse the charges, then return the sump and do business else where.

Any place that treats you like this will do it again- as they have no scruples- they only care about money. Mistakes get made, but employee's represent what owners desire of employee's- why should it matter whom you are- or whom you are not?

It shouldn't matter who you are, but sounds like maybe the owner has a few bad customers taking advantage of the return policy, once he realized they weren't one of them, he had no problem with the return it seems.

I was a manager a one of the largest retail stores a few years back... It even happens there and no, I wasn't the one that started it.

The return policy is very clear and on the back of every receipt, but we would make exceptions depending on who it was... If it was a guy that bought tools every week for a specific job and then returned them when he was done, fine, it happens all the time, you have 90 days and we'll take it back for any reason, even if we know he's just "renting" the tools and costing the store money. Most of the time these items are marked down as a loss and thrown away. A HUGE waste. They buy a 400.00 dewalt combo kit for a job, return it a week later, perfectly fine, but can't re-sale it as new, mark it down, throw it away.

For people like that, we would do what's required, but not go out of out way for them.

For a person that was having a genuine problem with, say, the same 400.00 kit and for example, it broke after the 90 days, we would probably make an exception to the return policy and replace it for them to keep a loyal customer happy.

This is good. Glad things worked out for you. You never mentioned if you used a credit card to pay for the refugium. If you did you can call your credit card company and they WILL get things straightened out.

Sure would like to see some pics of your set-up.
    Good luck,
    Rick
