how many of you have all of your aquarium plugs plugged into gfi outlets. my biggest fear with my tank is my overflow will fail, my tank will overflow onto the powerstrips and cause a fire. the powerstrips are plugged into gfi outlets. will the gfi's protect against this?

yes it kick out the gfci. as long as the gfci isnt faulty. i routinely test mine to make sure its still working properly. also having drip loops is a good thing to have on all your chords.

yes but many of my cords like my powerheads have just enough cord to make it to the strip. no extra cord to make a drip loop. i just hope the gfi's would trip if any water splashed onto the power strips. id rather have a wet floor then the house burn down from an overflow failure.

i am going to look into that thank you. keep them off the floor less chance of water hitting them. but if water ever hit the powerstrips and caused a problem the gfi would cut it off right? thats there job?

EVERYONE should have their tanks on GFCI protected circuits!
Your power strips should be mounted up high with drip loops on the cords so no water can get to them even in a flood.
For redundancy its nice to have equipment split up between two GFCI circuits so if you lose one you still have half your pumps or heaters and you don't lose all your inhabitants.
