Hi, I am BJ from Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and I am new to salt water, and have found a lot of useful information from this site. I am glad I found you guys and gals. I have a 49 gal tank with an ehiem canister filter, sea clone protein skimmer. 20 pounds of sand/20 pounds of crushed coral, and a few rocks. Tank mates are 2 yellow damsels, a maroon clown, 6 line wrasse, butterfly fish, cleaner shrimp, and fire shrimp. The fire shrimp seems to molt often (about every two weeks) is this normal?? Also I get a cloudy film on the water surface, how can I get rid of that?
I am looking forward to many years of enjoyment and growth with salt water.

    BJ Riley

Welcome to 3reef! Wer'e glad you found us. For your cloudy surface, they make a surface skimming kit for cannister filters.

As far as, the shrimp molting. Do you add iodine to your tank?
And be careful with the butterfly if you plan on adding corals to your tank...

I do not add Iodine, and only the fire shrimp molts, the cleaner shrimp doesn't or hasn't.
