Green hair algae!

    Hi, well since a week ago i sold my purple tang and blue hippo tang because i have a 40 breeder and they were no longer 2in :cry: and yessss i know! lol but now i have this green hair algae growing on all my LR, what should i do? i have done a 20% water change my params are normal! i know that sometime the algae may be causing it to show normal params. Please tell me any tips. thanks

    Have you tried bulking up your CUC with some turbo snails or hermits?

    Some urchins do a great job as well.

    yes i have mmm about 30 hermits, 35 nassarius/margarita/mexican turbo/astrea snails combined, 1 emerald, 1 cucumber, 1 lettuce nudibranch, and 2 cleaner clams. but everything started since i sold my tangs, i had never seen GHA in my tank before

    My Emerald crab is awsome. They worry some ppl but my two haven't done any damage. My turbo snails are great on the glass also. Red scarlet hermits also work pretty hard on the GHA. I have 5 Red scarlet, 5 blue leg, 2 emerald , 1 porcelain crab, and 5 large turbo snails. All the GHA in my tank is gone!!! Good luck

    Next I guess I would make sure your bulbs are not old, try some chaeto or mangroves in the sump, run some GFO.

    i have always had cheato in my refugium, my bulbs are probably 3 months old, and i dont run any phosphate or nitrate remover, should i do that?

    Then yes I would run some GFO, and cut back on feedings. I assume you are using RO/DI.

    Nice tank in the avatar BTW.

    thank you! thats an old photo by the way, i need to update my avatar lol, i have more corals now. well tmrw i will visit the lfs to buy that, and do more water changes, ill keep feeding to every other day for now.

    Get a sea hare! They are the best for hair algae control bar none! Voracious appetite and they are kind of cool to watch! Just don't spook them because they can ink if alarmed!
