I unfortunately had to be out of town for a couple of days and left my tank in someone else's hands and returned to a tank covered in hair algae. I think that my lights may have been left on too long because I noticed that my lights were switched on my power strip so I know that the normal light cycle was not kept.
Anyways what can I do to get rid of this stuff. I spent about two hours scrubbing and peeling it off my rock and sand and came right back this morning.
Should I cut my lighting hours down or what?
I was considering getting a lawnmower blenny and letting him go to town but none of my lfs had any in stock.

I will try and get some pics up soon. any help would be appreciated thanks

do water changes and find out your source for the problems.. did your friend over feed while you were away, or did you over feed before you left..

get your normal light cycle back up...suck out as much as you can when your doing WC...

also you can get some nitrate + phosphate remover, put it in a little bag, and either stick it in your sump or HOB...

your be ok, check your nitrates, thats whats feeding the algae, without it they can eat.

I dont understand the constant water change? I have had the same 180 gallon tank set up for 2 years with no problems.....i built a massive filtration system that requires about 2 hours of work every 3 weeks but besides that i just replace evaporation....what am i missing, my tank is flawless, no nasty algae-and damn near perfect water no mater what i test.....i am seriously confused not boasting i dont want a catostrophic failure in the future if something is building to burst.
