    Hello

Just to confirm/ask -- what is the flow rate supposed to be on my return pump?? I believe its should be 10times per hour the tank size ???

( so a 75 gallon tank should have a rate of 750 gallons per hour?? )

    Thanks in advance

It also depends some what on your overlfow. It is possible to put more flow into your system than your overflow can handle. You also need to think about how much GPH there is once it reaches your tank. Most pumps have a diagram that show GPH at different heights.

That is a good rule of thumb for a sump based filter system.

If you choose to use a refugium as part of the sump design, then that section of the filter system would be in the neighbor hood of 1% of the system volume per hour.

I'd shoot for 4 to 5 x through the sump per hr. thats about the best rate for an average skimmer to have time and proper volume to skim at peak performance . More times the not less is more . Now for the internal circulation then all you want depending on corals I pass about 970 GPH or so through the sump and push about 7,000 GPH around inside the tank on a 180 I have tried more and less to find what worked and this is what I came up with to get a good skim amount and high ORP .

It's not just myself as many who aimed for these rates and moving up and down to more or less also finds it worked well .

ORP...."Oxidative redox potential", says the acronym thingy ... Tangster, can you help me understand that one?
