Sooo I usually check my sump once a day(water lever etc..)..well ive been busy the past two days, and tonight when I came home I looked under the tank and saw may ATO switch off to the side and my sump level in the danger zone:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.....so for the next few hours I will be adding RO/DI to slowly bring back my spgr...close call a few more hours and I would had a burnt out pump or worse...going to order a better float switch holder(the one I was using had suction cupsnever been a prob over the past 4 yrs).going to order the DA double float holder...live and learn my friends..always something when you least expect it..::)::)::)::)

    Wow. Good catch.
I've never used them, but if you want for piece of mind and some added safety, they do make run-low switches to turn your pump off in these cases. FWIW

Its funny how you can buy the best productX money can buy and it still all comes down to a little suction cup!! You could also try putting putting a timer on your ATO for a redundant safety measure. Mine is set to come on 4 times a day at 1 minute each. If the tank does not need a toping off at one of the selected times the ATO simply does not activate.

glad you caught it before it was a problem. Get a Tunze 3155 the magnet holders for the sensors are super strong, you will never have an issue with them falling off. It's a higher priced ATO but $180 vs piece of mind is $ well spent IMO. It's my first ATO and I absolutely love it.

The biggest issues with low water in the sump are the salinity change and in-sump protein skimmer efficiency, not the risk of a pump burning out. You would see bubbles getting sucked into the display tank as the clue that something is wrong in the sump well before a pump is in any danger.

It takes a lot to burn out a good pump. I've had a pool pump literally running almost dry for more than 24 hours when we were out of town and had an issue with a leak. As long as there is some water going through the pump to keep it moderately cool, a decent pump won't burn out.

Thanks, but im either going to try and place a magnet onto my holder or go with the DA one that hangs over the side and can hold two floats..
