hey im new to this kind of i made one a while back when i first got into this hobby, i used fishlore but they suck so.

well my neighbor gave me a pre made sump, its manufacturer is AMIRACLE, its a wet dry but im planning on just making it into a regular sump.

the problem is that my tank has been established for 7 months now with corals and corraline algea is just starting to grow like xenia. so i was thinking about taking alll the live rock and corals out and temporaraly putting them in a 20 gallon long, and i will store the water probably in another tank with powerheads and fliters with good media in it.

im planning on making an overflow like this

i saw it in a frag tank build thread, i thought it would be easier than making an internal overflow because im not really keen on it, and the external overflow IMO is a flood waiting to happen. i just want somthing simple that will just overflow down to the sump and will a ball valve on it so i can stop the flow when i do things like water changes or somthing, just somthing to have.

im also wondering on what kind of return pump to use. im planning on using 1 inch pvc like you see in the pic.

    well thats pretty much it

    thanks for reading

so, you are planning on drilling your current display tank? sounds pretty risky imo. maybe you should just buy another bare tank, drill it and split the contents! that way you would have 2!

sorry i can't help much, but atleast its a BUMP!

What's wrong with a HOB overflow? I've had mine up and running for over 2 years. Never once had a flood, or lost the siphon. Properly done they are fantastic.

Here's a few pics of when I first set it up. Looks about the same now except the fuge area looks pretty swampy now and the Mangroves are little bushes:

About as simple as it gets and, in my opinion, better than trying to drill an existing tank.

I use a Mag 3 as my return pump, but you could use something different depending on the size of your DT and the size of the sump.

Hope I at least helped a little.

i know that they can be good if they are done properly but i dont really want to make one and i dont really have the money to buy one. but anyway what do you think of that overflow i put in the pic, i think it would be alot more easier than making the internal box.

ya, it will work for sure. might be a bit noisy and not very attractive but its guaranteed to bring water from the DT to the sump. what size it the DT and sump?

I agree, save up and get yourself an eshopps 300 overflow box. It has work flawlessly for me. Keeps siphon when stuff is turned off.
