so over the weekend my weekend i bought a large hermit crab and it had a red zoa at least thats what i think it is. my camera doent take good pics so i cant post pics. the funny thing is that the hermit crab ate a large turbo snail that died and moved into it and this red zoa (?) moved to the new shell with the crab. when little pieces of meat crossed the path of the zoa (?) it stuck it in and closed up. eating? then would let the meat go. this critter is less then an inch tall at the base maybe the same but is slender. im new the the hobby so dont know to many GOOD site to go site seeing for stock. bought a few books and found nothing. again it looks like a red zoa. just looking for ideas on what it could be :)

It may be a paly(Same as zoa, just larger) They can eat floating objects in the water column and pieces of brine, mysis and stuff. I have a piece of paly on my hermit shell and has been growing, also a kenya, and some xenia..

Might be some kind of small anemone. Zoas don't really actively grab stuff and eat it, and moving to another shell would be a very slow process.

It may be an anemone..Possibly a majono..They could resemble a zoa in ways unless you know exactly how they look.

As long as its not hurting anything or is not extremely huge, its fine to keep it for a bit..Just make sure you have something to kill it if it starts getting out of hand.
