    Hey Dingo, great score IMO

with a 300 gallon tank a coast to coast overflow sounds like a great idea to me
you can afford to sacrifice the tank space in one that size

This could be a dumb questions but are most houses equipped to handle a tank that size structure wise? If I have done my math right that tank is going to exceed a ton in weight over a relatively small footprint.

2nd story of houses? older homes with basements etc?

    special bracing needed?

You probably do need special bracing if you're not right on the concrete with that tank.

this would be built into my basement. I would have it on my solid concrete floor with a base made out of either steel I beams or solid concrete (as concrete is free for me...)

    All are good options.

1 you will need to find a piece the same thickness as the tank walls for best safety.

2 an internal overflow is also a solid idea.

3 good idea provided you can find one that will fit properly which I suspect you be able to do.

I think my order of preference would be 1, 3 and then 2. I think a CTC OF is the way to go.

cool deal. A couple things to look for are stress cracks around the joints and a little up from the joints. look for shearing and chips on the corners. Just a side note in case you run into the problem later, with 1" thick glass, you will be limited on products that use magnets for mounting. I agree with the above. Plug the holes with bulkheads and drill where you want them.
