I finally got an android based phone (a Droid 2) & a smarter smart phone (upgraded from a Sidekick 2008).

Anyone else have an android phone and know of any cool apps or apps that should be avoided?

I especially like free apps...leaves me more moola for corals and such ;D but if an app is good and useful/fun I'll pay for it.

There are some very handy ones (for me anyways) that are free.

Droid Light uses camera flash as flashlight
    Kitchen Timer has 3 timers
    Stop Watch
SpeedView GPS Speedometer, odd enough has reverse image for HUD in your car
    Pandora online streaming music
    gStrings Guitar/Violin tuner
    Bubble level. Fairly accurate.

Edit: Must have.... Talking Tom free. Useless but awesomely annoying.

Found a few myself as I was going through the app store.
    1. Advanced App Killer when I was researching phones tis came up as a must have.
    2. Some fun games Word Up! (a boggle style game), Word Drop (like a cross between Boggle & gem buster game), Wordfeud (is a Scrabble style game that connects you to another user...no AI available), Paper Toss (good for waiting in lines).

Word up is my favorite!! I had that on my old phone and I was addicted to it. I need to get it on my new phone!

I have these 3 on a Droid X and love them.

The app killer is not needed as the software automatically saves space it needs to function. Doesn't use anymore battery to hold that information. Just a rumor that has got way too much attention.

I had a Droid X and switched back to my Storm 2. Great piece of hardware, but the phone itself sucked. No copy & paste, dismal exchange support, 2.2 decreased battery life, etc. Really disappointed. The crapware / shovelware that is mandatory and can't be removed also annoyed the crap out of me. The Storm 2 is not better hardware-wise but at least my exchange e-mails come through properly.

I came from a Windows CE phone so I really like the Droid. Could get better battery life but I will wait for the release of the new software next month instead of rooting the device.
