Since your ATO is new and may or may not work properly, I would put it on a timer to be sure it cant continue to run if something were to fail. keep in mind you will not be there to fix any potential disasters, or correct salt levels if the sump gets flooded.

    just a thought

your tank will probably be fine withour anyone toughing it, sure the water level will drop and some nuisance algae will gome but your fish can do fine withoug feeding for up to 6-7 days. i had a seahorse tank and i should not have gone on vacation. the house sitter though the tank was dirty and sprayed windex all over the place and when i got home everything was dead.

your better off just locking the door to the fish room and leaving.

If I have someone watching my tank that doesn't know anything about SW, I make sure that they have the phone number to a TRUSTED LFS or at least my user name and password for 3reef. That way if there are any problems, they have someone to ask questions!

Fortunately, no one has ever needed to use it and I have a very large local reef club for back up!

Unfortunately, my aquarium is in my living room. Maybe I will leave a note telling them not to touch it. I'm so protective of it, even my husband who watches me take care of it, isn't allowed to touch it! He is only allowed to do feedings I premeasure out for him.

That is an even greater idea.

OMG If my husband ever did that he will find a rock in a place he wouldn't like.

My vote is for letting them fend for themselves for a few days. My experience with short trips leads me to think as long as its rare my tanks almost seem to appreciate the change of pace for a few days.

I'll probably do that. We leave the 16th around 7am be gone for the 17th the whole time and come back sometime the 18th. If I feed them before I leave then they will only have fend for themselves the 17th since I will feed them the 18th though. :)
