Many times we don't understand all of the reasons for us having live rock and sand in our tanks! Along with the benficial animals living on an in our rock and sand and the biological filtration they represent, as well as the aesthetically pleasing site and home for corals etc. they also provide food for many of the inhabitants we keep in our tanks!
Because of this, I think we worry more about feeding of our livestock than we need to be.

I couldn't agree more. When I go on vacation, I don't worry about feeding at all as there are PLENTY of pods in my tank for the fish to eat and the herbivores have plenty of algae to graze on. If I'm going to be away for more than a week, I would ask somebody to come over once to feed but otherwise, I would just feed the heck out of the fish before I left and leave them to pick on the rock and sand for the remainder of the time that I'm away. Asking somebody to feed daily can very often lead to your tank sitter overfeeding with sometimes disastrous results.

And how Annik, sometime having a sitter for your fish tanks is more of an detriment than anything else!

make sure the person watching your tank uses r.o. water! The girl that took care of my tank last vacation used tap water because she didn't see the sence in using (bottled water, as she called it) in a fish tank. I'm still disgruntled if you can't tell! l.o.l!!!:)
