    Silicone bonds very strongly to glass - hence why it is used in so many glass aquariums.

    Silicone does not BOND to acrylic very well. That's why you need to use acrylic cement to bond an ALL acrylic tank.

    I personally have not seen to many tanks with three sides (well with the bottom probably 4) of glass and only the front panel being acrylic.

    I can tell you that is likely and old/custom tank as I have never seen one of these myself.

    Glass = Silicone

    Acrylic = Weld-On

    You can attached acrylic to glass but it wont last very long unless there is no pressure on it... most have tried and it eventually comes loose.

    woops ment i didnt think silicon had a strong bond to acrylic... i saw it on a fairly large cube tank i think it was about 100 gallons if i had to guess.do they just use very thick acrylic for more bonding surface?
