For me personally, I would stay away from acrylic. My current 6 foot 300 gallon tank is acrylic and it has a ton of scratches. If you like to keep snails they will easily scratch the acrylic.

Sounds like acrylic is a pain. Good I confirmed I do want glass but should I pay extra for low iron glass?

Other thing you should do is search this forum for information on glasscages. There is a lot of debate on their quality - some very positive...some not so much. I have never used them...so I can't speak to it personally - I have just seen a lot of traffic on them.

As for low iron...I am getting one in November....and will let you know. I am not sure there is a need for it personally - but I want to give it a shot out of curiosity if nothing else.

Yes I have read many negative things about glasscages. Although I have read great things about glasscages so IDK maybe they are inconsistent :(

I agree with this if you're in a position to do so. For smaller tanks I believe this is a given. Larger tanks of acrylic tend to make more sense due to the weight and potential shapes (e.g. bullet shaped tanks like I have). For roughly 200g and below I'd go glass. Above that I think acrylic is better.
