    glass might have heated and then splash of water or bubble popped and rapid cooling shrank that part of glass and cause fracture which in temperd glass shoots across the whole thing.

    What lamp fixture do you have ? I have several different sizes around here and at the shop .. Give me the measurements if you don't have the name of the fixture.. The glass will not harm anything and as you see it working up out of and around the sand just pick it out.. Won't cut you unless you try if it was tempered for sure ? What happened water splash on it ?
