Hi Everyone! The tempered glass on my MH light fixture broke....shattered into a zillion pieces and fell all over my corals, rock and sand! Got most of the pieces out of the tank but there are some that sunk into the sand and disappeared. Is it OK to leave those pieces in the sand? Also, does anyone know where I can get some replacement tempered glass so I can turn my lights back on? It's an Ultra-Light made in USA. Cannot find any info online. Please help....fish/corals need light! Thank you! Kas

you will have to measure and go to glass store. It will take about a week maybe only a couple of days. They cut it then temper it. As or the glass in the bottom of tnk I have no idea. I would guess it is ok. I mean your tank is made of it.

Sorry to hear about the glass. I would check a glass shop if you live in area that might have one.

Is this something that's going to happen often? Hope not! I really thought that the HD lighting companies would sell replacement glass.:-/

You could raise up light so no water will splash on it. It will be fine with out glass cover for a few days. Bulb is super hot and could shatter if water were to splash on it.

How did this happen. It would take you weeks and weeks to get a replacement glass. Not to mention all the mark up for a piece of glass. I am sure you will pay less at a glass store. Way easier then hunting for a piece of glass.

I have no idea how/why it happened. Thanks for the help everyone! Monday I'll start searching for a glass place that will temper some glass for me. Enjoy the night! Kas

Tempered glass occasionally fails due to imperfections or other defects in the glass. Had an entire pain of glass disintegrate in a building I was in once. The building was about a year old.

I agree, go to a glass shop with the measurements you need. Make sure you get UV tempered glass as well. If the glass is not UV filtering, it will do you no good. Maybe all tempered glass blocks UV, I don't know. As far as getting the glass out from the sand, I would highly suggest doing it. You never know if something will sandsift and cut itself on it, or you if you ever have to do some rock-scaping. I would get one of those kitty litter scoopers and sift it out with that. Go slow so you don't make a sandy mess in your tank.
