TWAN you and I sound like the same person man.I have dam near lost everything in my tank do to my bio crashing on me.I felt like I was chasing somethin when that damn red slim started growing and I felt like it was one problem after another and I wanted to give up my self. I also dont have the money sometimes to to top off with proper water from the LFS and trust me my water evaporates real fast lol.But hang in there man I was about to shut my tank down for good until I paid a little visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and let me tell you that motivated me to go home and start gettin to work on my tank and now the red slime is gone and the water conditions are getting better and this time I just have to rebuild slowly

I prefer my canister filter to water changes.

    Hey don't give up.

Most of us here have had to learn the hard way about our tanks - "{profanity removed} happens!"

Just check out Jason Mckenzie's (a very experienced and competent reefer) link:

    looseing-fish-need-help-

I went for about a year of loosing beautiful corals, clams and other inverts due to a Cu problem, which I could not nail down --- believe me I pulled that tank apart 4 or 5 times looking for a brass cabinet screw, penny, etc. did several 100% water changes.

After much $$$, anguish, and effort, I finally discovered the problem to be a copper fitting inside the "cheapo" pond pump I was using. --- lots of lessons to be had here.:p

But persistance paid off, and my tank has been problem free, provided great pleasure and looking great for the last 3/4 years.

    Good Luck!

thanks again guys... i just went out to buy some water (18 gallons) and now i gotta pick out an LFS that has cheaper salt... one of them sells the big bags of IO for about 26 dollars... and the other one only sells by the box...anything else i should buy while i'm out? i would like another fish to replace the lawnmower blenny, or a frag of green starburst...the LFS dude said he'd give me some for free...he also has some flourescent blue mushrooms... would it be a good idea to attempt this now, or should i wait longer?

well, a bit of good news, my blenny is not dead... when i was using my joes juice on an aiptasia today, i noticed him sticking his head out of a hole in the rocks... for some strange reason though, he's hiding in the rocks now, in the shadows where its hard to see him...... so maybe there's still hope for him...
