I have a plug in my basement where i plan to set up my 90 gallon that is grounded. I have one of them little 5 dollar testers and checked it myself. Question is do i have to put a gfci plug in? The one i have doesnt seem to wanna work in that recepticle box.

Yes you should have one unless yours is like mine where the first plug in the circuit is the GFCI and the rest of the plugs go through that one. In Illinois it is code that all circuits in a basement have to be 3' off the ground and either have to have a GFCI outlet on them or a GFCI circuit breaker because of the danger of flooding I assume.

If you know how to do it a GFCI circuit breaker will probably be your best bet. One thing I like about this is that if it breaks, you will probably notice quicker because everything else on the circuit will be off also. I am looking into installing one soon, my TV is on the same circuit so I'm sure my wife would be the best alarm ever!!;D

I would for safety purposes considering this is essentially a tub of water with electricity flowing into it, lol
