Im glad youre going to stay.. I would be devistated if something happened to my tank, but the joy and relaxation it brings me at the end of a tough day is worth it in the end..

I'm sorry for your loss, but like everyone else has said today, don't give up. It's horrifying to see something so simple do so much damage.

OP, are you sure all the corals are dead? I'd get the salinity up and skim hard. Some may pull through. Stranger things have happened.

Glad to hear you're sticking with the hobby. You are quite the asset.

For my ATO I just use a simple coralife float valve and gravity feed from a storage bin above my sump. I've thought about feeding directly from an RO/DI unit but haven't due to the potential for disaster and TDS creep. I'm even nervous about the float valve now because I use the same float valve for my RO/DI container and it started filling up with water. Almost flooded my basement .... again. I'd like to find one made of just styrofoam.

This hobby would be so much easier if water wasn't involved.

Sorry to hear Phil! I hate crashes, its like getting kicked in the jewels but even worse, like also being eye poked at the same time. Stick in there bud.

Only thing I wonder is how did your salinity drop to below readable levels after 45 gals of fresh water? Not trying to insult or aggrevate but in a 180 at say 1.025 adding 45 gals of 1.0 shouldn't theroetically bring it down to freshwater.. Using a rough weighted average my calculations should take it down to say 1.0187. BUT even thinking that the specific gravity isn't that low the sudden change would be SUPER TOUGH on the osmo regulation of the fish and inverts... Sorry again Phil.

well the thread started sadly but its coming around towards the end, thankfully

sad news Phil, I "feel" for you and your initial reaction is one that would be shared by many. instances like this feel like a real hard kick in the guts
