I bought some live rock a few weeks ago and I am pretty sure there is a serpent star inside of one of the pieces. It seems pretty small but it will only stick it's legs out and won't come out. Any suggestions on how to get it to come out? I have tried taking the rock out of the water and moving it all around and he won't budge. I want to be sure that it is a serpent star b/c I want coral down the road and I don't want it to finally decide to come out to eat my coral. Thanks for any ideas. ~Jamie~

Serpent stars don't eat coral and are a good addition to a tank. What you are seeing might very well be a mini brittle star which is good to have as they eat detritus. Any chance you could post a picture of your critter?

What you have residing in the rockwork is a beneficial hitchhiker that will offer you, and your tank, many benefits. I am sure that it is a mini Serpent Sea Star as Amcarrig stated.
Your unsuspecting addition will in no way interfere with your desire to purchase coral down the road, I assure you!

Thanks guys. I was worried cause I couldn't get him to come out. Now I feel better. I can't get a good picture b/c the rock he is in only weighs about 3 pounds so his legs are pretty small.
